Peening Anvils
Picard Narrow Anvil
A premium quality, traditional ,"short", narrow anvil, made by the Picard Company of Germany. It weighs 500 grams, has a hardness of 50-58 HRC, and has a medium or normal radius. The tapered spike is for mounting the anvil into a pre-drilled hole in a hardwood stump.- $35.00
SFX - Short, Narrow Anvil w/ Support Platform & Guide Plate
This may be the ultimate peening anvil. It's a new narrow scythe anvil designed by Ernst Schoiswohl for the Schroeckenfux Scythe Factory. It features an adjustable support platform, a guide for the edge of the blade, plus a precisely and expertly shaped radius on the anvil face. The anvil is made from extremely high quality steel, hardened to 58-60 Rockwell, and weighs 700g's. The attachable guide and support platform make it easy to keep the edge in the correct position on the anvil face. This anvil makes it much easier for a beginner to get good results when freehand peening. Experienced peeners may remove the guide and support platform, but they will still greatly appreciate the exceptional hardness of the anvil and the expertly shaped radius. Amazing consistency is possible with this anvil. The support platform now has the extra range needed for wider blades. 10cm tall. Normal radius. - $70.00
SFX - Tall, Narrow Anvil w/ Support Platform & Guide Plate
Same as the anvil above, but 16cm tall. Normal radius. Tall anvils are used on very large stumps, which also serve as your seat. So you and the anvil are on the same stump, with the anvil between your legs. The advantage of this, is that mass of the larger stump, plus your own weight, create an extremely solid and stable base for the anvil. The stump will not wiggle. This makes peening much nicer. For more info, and more videos of the anvil in action, see blog.

Picard Wide Anvil
A premium wide anvil, made by the Picard Company of Germany. Beautifully shaped. Exceptionally hard. 500g. For "Old School" Austrian-style peening, where the blade is placed right-side-up on the wide anvil, and the edge is peened from the top with a cross-peen hammer. Wide anvils are also needed by narrow anvil owners when they need to repair a small crack in their blade. See page 158 of The Scythe Book. To repair small cracks in your blade, you need a wide anvil like this, and a true scythe hammer with a cross-peen side. - $35.00
Hammers
500g Picard Combination Scythe Hammer
Still the only scythe hammer I know of, that is hard enough for peening with the Picard, and SFX anvils, that I sell. Excellent for drawing hammer strike techniques (aka glancing blows, Ziehender Dengelschlag.). -$35
700g Bellota Combination Scythe Hammer
I've been searching a long time for a 700g peening hammer. I had my hopes up with this one. Unfortunately, I think it is too soft. It's an interesting design to experience, though. The longer front section, changes the balance of the hammer to the ideal for a straight down, hammer strike . Not so good for a drawing hammer strike. I only have a few of these.
